Overview
In 2007 G&P Products released their M series high speed and high torque motors. The M120 quickly gained a reputation for reliable and extreme high speed performance for high ROF rifles. On the opposite end, the M160 became well known as a high torque, performance motor, for high FPS springs. G&P markets both long and short versions for version 2 (v2) and version 3 (v3) gearboxes.
Accessories
The G&P M120 High Speed comes with a packet containing G&P’s (in)famous screws and spade connectors for screwing the electrical wires directly to the motor. The packet also includes color coded heat shrink tubing.
Externals Review
The motor comes clearly marked as the G&P M120 “High Speed” with some cool graphics on the sticker. It’s simply a motor so there’s not really much to look at, especially considered it’s stuck inside of a motor grip and never seen. The bottom is clearly marked which end is for the positive terminal.
Internals Review
Internally the M120 is centered around a pair of standard magnets which are fairly weak for torque, but give a high Rate of Fire (RoF). I’ve used many high torque and high speed motors. Anything ranging from an A&K high torque, to a SystemA Magnum, and the G&P M120 comes in roughly in the middle, with some reports of it being able to handle reasonable torque (M130 springs) to high speed springs (M85). Attempts to turn the motor by hand (a good way to judge how high torque a motor is), is fairly easy and gives the user a good idea that this is not a torque up motor.
Performance
Performance wise I am extremely impressed. I’ve used some G&P M120’s in the past, and they were able to crank M120 springs with a good RoF. With standard ratio gears (18:1) the normal RoF goes from roughly 14-16 BB’s per second on a 9.6v battery with a stock motor, to 17-18 BB’s per second with a 9.6v battery and the G&P M120 High Speed.
Final Thoughts and Upgradeability
The price of the G&P M120 “High Speed” is still roughly $40 USD~ and hasn’t dropped since it came out almost 5 years ago. Many upgraders have moved away from the G&P products after a string of failures with G&P internal products. However, the G&P M120 still holds its own against many clone and aftermarket high speed motors.
Externals Score: 10/10
It’s a motor, you’ll never really see it. But the sticker is colorful enough when the motor is out of the body its still eye catching and distinctive.
Internals Score: 10/10
Long term testing is required, but initial testing proves this motor will last for years and provide a cheap and effective RoF upgrade for a low price.
Overall score: 10/10
I’ve never been disappointed with G&P products, and the M120 is no exception. I look forward to continuing to test the M120’s performance.
