Real Steel History
Another introduction to the FastMag™ line is the FastMag™ Heavy [FMH]. It is designed to accommodate most 7.62 x 51 ammunition magazines. The FMH follows the traditional design and features of the FastMag™ Gen.III and maintains the key performance characteristics including low profile and the enhanced urethane tension strap system. The FMH Accepts all FastMag™ variants (FastMag™ GEN.III & FastMag™ Pistol) for 'double-stacking'. (taken from ITW Nexus Advanced)
Overview
As I look into 2019 I realize just how long I’ve been playing airsoft. I am personally running out of items I need for myself. But from time to time I still pick new items to test for use. And hopefully, people are still finding these reviews helpful and informative.
This time we’re looking at some new gear. I was using an adapted open top pouch, but they were difficult to quickly access, and even worse to load a mag into with my vest on. So I bought a friction fit style pouch to try out. I’ve avoided it until now because my fear is they will fall out and I have to buy more mags which gets expensive after awhile.
As I’ve said many times before, “Matrix,” is Evike’s in-house name for their direct connections to the same China factories which produce items for other well known brand names. The website listing brands them as being manufactured by “Avengers,” which again, is another name provided by Evike. These particular pouches appear to be from the same factory as Emerson Gear (more on this later).
Externals Review
Externally these pouches are what you would expect. The plastic appears to be decently flexible ABS plastic and able to take the abuse of the field. There are two bands made of a urethane rubber that squeeze the two halves of the pouch together and also create positive retention on a mag when it is inserted into the pouch.
The MOLLE “straps” are also made of rubber, which I’m personally not a fan of. Eventually it’s a weak point the longer the rubber is exposed to the elements and dries out over time.
The mags are somewhat stackable. By weaving the MOLLE straps between pouches they can be paired together. However, they are much bulkier than similarly paired cloth type pouches, and far more bulky than a double stack magazine pouch.
Final Thoughts and Upgradeability
I originally bought these for use at the range, but after receiving them in the mail I decided they would be better used on my airsoft vest for recreation. I’ve avoided purchasing them up until this point since they seemed less than reliable. While this may be true in the long run, at least for the time being I’m very happy with them.
As noted earlier the ones from Evike appear to be Emerson brand. Since the only other company to produce a similar product is FMA I’m fairly confident in them being Emerson. I initially purchased the FMA brand ones from China through Ebay, however, they took a while to arrive, and I bought the Evike ones shortly after. Comparing the two, the FMA brand pouches (left) are a FDE color, while the Emerson brand ones are tan. The rubber pieces are very similar. And the FMA set also does not have two holsters with tabs, rather only one has which does make for more convenient stacking, though they are still very bulky as mentioned earlier.
Externals Score: 10/10
The plastic is flawless, and I’m very pleased with the “rubber” based retention system, despite it being a problem in the long run as they dry out. I don’t trust the rubber in the long run, but this is also a flaw of the real ITW product so I can’t knock points off of the replica.
Overall score: 10/10
I give them full marks despite the MOLLE straps. Since they are a replica, they are only copying the potential long term flaw. If you need a truly open top pouch and don’t mind the hard shell, I think these are possibly some of the best affordable options.
