This is a VERY quick overview of the various types and brands of the numerous Barrett .50 Cal sniper rifle variants available, I will be attempting to keep it up-to-date if possible.
A number of Barrett sniper rifles variants have been produced over the years. For a FULL list please check out this link: www.airsoftforum.com/board/Guide-Barrett-M107-t149198.html
This guide is written to cover only the CURRENTLY IN PRODUCTION Barrett .50 caliber sniper rifles.
Snow Wolf M82 Automatic Electric Gun (AEG) = HurricanE Clone[/u]
Price: $270 - $290
FPS: 400 - 440
Mags: Proprietary Hurricane M82 AEG high cap mag
Pros:
- The only affordable M82 on the market
- Decent quality externals
- Light 16lbs
Cons:
- Externals are not to proper dimensions, receiver is 2” short in the front
- Basic JG/china clone internals
- Nearly 5ft long
For the price the Snow Wolf M82 (SW02) can’t be beat. The rifle is a copy of the original HurricanE conversion kit for the Tokyo Marui M16. The receiver is out of dimension in comparison to the SOCOM Gear, but it’s also a quarter of the price. It’s a decent starting point, but it’s still a nearly 5ft long, 16lb rifle
Snow Wolf M99 Bolt Action Sniper Rifle (BASR) = PWD Clone[/u]
Price: $180 - $200
FPS: 430 - 460
Mags: Standard Maruzen APS2 Spring low cap mag
Pros:
- Only Barrett M99 currently available
- Decent quality externals
- Maruzen APS2 compatible magazines and some internals
Cons:
- Heavy, it’s a Barrett, they don’t come light
- Not 100% APS2 compatible
The Snow Wolf M99 (SW01) was Snow Wolf’s entry into the airsoft world and the first major Barrett to be produced in some time. It’s not 100% APS2 compatible, but considering it’s the only M99 out there, and for the price, it’s a good deal.
SOCOM Gear M107/M82 Automatic Electric Gun (AEG) = Original Design[/u]
Price: $1000 - $1200
FPS: 400 - 430
Mags: Proprietary SOCOM Gear M82 AEG high cap mag
Pros:
- Realistic replica with full Barrett licensed trademarks
- Realistic weight and dimensions
- Guarder high quality metal body
- High quality Madbull Black Python version 2 6.03mm tight bore barrel
Cons:
- Extremely heavy at 28lbs+
- Cheap JG gearbox and hop up
For the price, SOCOM Gear pales in comparison to the Snow Wolf. However the externals are much higher quality. The internals are sadly not much better and are about comparable to Snow Wolf. The body is probably as good as they get with Guarder making some of the best parts in airsoft. The $1k+ price tag is a serious turnoff for many, for what equates to a JG.
