This is a VERY quick overview of the various types and brands of the numerous Izhmash Dragunov SVD variants available; I will be attempting to keep it up-to-date if possible.
A&K SVD Spring = A to Z Clone[/u]
Price: $125 - $200
FPS: 380 - 400
Mags: Standard A&K high cap and midcap mag
Pros:
- Full metal externals and internals
- 100% clone of the A to Z SVD
Cons:
- No real wood options like A to Z
- Cheap quality metal
The A&K is the first clone of the Atoz and good clone at that. Unfortunately aftermarket parts are hard to find for the Atoz and its clones. Hopefully with the number of Atoz SVD clones coming out companies will start manufacturing more replacement/upgrade parts. The A&K is a good starting point as a sniper rifle since it is 100% compatible with Atoz parts at a decent price.
A&K SVD Automatic Electric Gun (AEG) = Real Sword Clone
Price $180 - $210
FPS 400 – 450
Mags: Proprietary Real Sword AEG midcap mag
Pros:
- Full metal clone of the extremely expensive Real Sword SVD
- 100% compatible with the Real Sword T3 gearbox
- Cheap but good looking externals
- real wood
Cons:
- Proprietary internals
- Still able to function as a full automatic
- China quality
First and foremost this AEG should not be confused with the similar looking A&K spring SVD which is a clone of the A to Z spring action SVD. This is in fact a completely different rifle. For the price the A&K SVD is a nice alternative to the RS SVD, being completely upgradeable with RS parts is an added bonus. It’s a shame the A&K has such weak stock internals, but for the price you can’t complain.
Classic Army SVD Automatic Electric Gun (AEG) = Original Design[/u]
Price: $420 - $600
FPS: 370 - 400
Mags: Proprietary CA AEG midcap mag
Pros:
- Full metal internals and externals
- Permanent semi-auto only like the real SVD
Cons:
- No real wood option like A to Z
- Internals are a mix of SR25 (Long version 2), version 7, and version 3
The Classic Army SVD, is one of 3 AEG SVD's on the market, and one of the only 2 realistic ones on the market. Unfortunately, like the Real Sword, the gearbox is based around a surprising proprietary design, with a large mix of internals. Sadly the CA does not have a wood version, but the realistic semi-auto only makes up for that. It is still a very expensive replica.
CYMA SVD Automatic Electric Gun (AEG) = Real Sword Clone
Price: $230 - $250
FPS: 360 – 400
Mags: Proprietary Real Sword AEG midcap mag
Pros:
- Full metal clone of the extremely expensive Real Sword SVD
- 100% compatible with the Real Sword T3 gearbox
- Cheap but good looking externals
- real wood
- lightweight aluminum receiver
Cons:
- Proprietary internals
- Still able to function as a full automatic
- China quality
CYMA’s mainstay has always been their line of cheap AK series (CM.0xx). Unlike the normal AK, the CYMA SVD is a clone of the Real Sword T3 design, which contains 4 gears instead of the standard 3. This makes getting parts harder, but not impossible as Real Sword parts are readily available. It does however limit upgrade potential as there aren’t many aftermarket parts that will fit. The plus side is this is roughly half the price as a Real Sword, downside is the parts are cheap and will most likely require replacement very soon after purchase. It is unknown if the S&T and CYMA come from the same factory, but it’s a safe bet they do.
Echo 1 SVD Automatic Electric Gun (AEG) = Rebranded CYMA
Price: Unknown
FPS: Unknown
Mags: Proprietary Real Sword AEG midcap mag
Pros:
- Same as CYMA
Cons:
- Same as CYMA
The Echo 1 SVD (CSR) is a soon to be released rebrand of the CYMA SVD. Currently the price tag is unknown. However, it’s safe to say the Echo 1 will be somewhat higher price tag, and with the limited upgrade potential of the Real Sword design, may or may not include “upgrades” beyond a high initial FPS.
JG SVD Automatic Electric Gun (AEG) = Tokyo Marui Clone[/u]
Price: $150 - $180
FPS: 350 - 400
Mags: Standard Tokyo Marui AEG high cap, midcap, and low cap mag
Pros:
- Full semi automatic like the real SVD
- Cheap
- Decent AEG internals
- Can use standard AK AEG mags
Cons:
- Maintains full automatic like AEG AK’s
- Not a 100% accurate SVD (uses AK mags)
- Not real wood like other SVD replicas
The JG SVD is a cheap replica with decent quality internals. The downside is the externals are plastic and are simple add-ons to their standard AK series so they are not 100% accurate in comparison to a real SVD. Like the real SVD the JG does have a semi-auto mode, but unfortunately maintains full auto like their AK series. As a starting point the JG is a decent platform and does offer a possibility of a more realistic SVD than the spring based Atoz.
King Arms SVD Spring = Original Design[/u]
Price: $500 - $700
FPS: 420 - 470
Mags: Standard A to Z Spring high cap mag
Pros:
- Pre A to Z SVD
- Highly sought after as collectors’ item
- Rare
Cons:
- Fake wood unlike the A to Z
The King Arms SVD is a pre-Atoz replica, more or less the original A to Z SVD. The only noticeable difference is the faux wood compared to the real wood on the Atoz. It is a high quality replica, but hard to acquire.
Real Sword SVD Automatic Electric Gun (AEG) = Original Design[/u]
Price: $500 - $600
FPS: 400 – 450
Mags: Proprietary Real Sword AEG midcap mag
Pros:
- Full metal externals and internals
- Real wood externals
- Has semi automatic like the real SVD
- 100% accurate externals
Cons:
- Expensive
- Proprietary internals
- Still able to function as a full automatic
S&T SVD Automatic Electric Gun (AEG) = Real Sword Clone[/u]
Price: $200 - $300
FPS: 400 – 450
Mags: Proprietary Real Sword AEG midcap mag
Pros:
- Full metal externals and internals
- Real wood externals
- Has semi automatic like the real SVD
- 100% accurate externals
- 100% clone of the Real Sword SVD
Cons:
- Proprietary internals
- Still able to function as a full automatic
- China quality
- Unknown brand name
S&T is a new name from china so their quality is unknown. However, the 100% compatibility with Real Sword SVD parts that are already readily available is a huge plus. Like the Real Sword’s SVD the S&T has full metal and real wood externals so it’s definitely a good looking and feeling copy. The internals are proprietary due to the accuracy of the externals like the Real Sword, and are of dubious china quality, but again, Real Sword OEM replacements are available so the S&T is an excellent alternative to the accurate Real Sword, but half the price.
