This is a VERY quick overview of the various types and brands of the Magnum Research .50AE Desert Eagle variants available; I will be attempting to keep it up-to-date if possible.
Cybergun .50 Desert Eagle Gas Blowback (GBB) = Rebranded KWC
Price: $100 - $120
FPS: 300 – 350
Mags: Proprietary KWC 24rd GBB midcap mag
Pros:
- Same as KWC
Cons:
- Same as KWC
Cybergun simply rebrands various companies. In this case their .50AE Desert Eagle is a rebrand of the KWC GBB.
CYMA .50 Desert Eagle Automatic Electric Pistol (AEP) = Original Design
Price: $40 - $90
FPS: 200 - 210
Mags: Proprietary CYMA 32rd AEP midcap mag
Pros:
- Cheap and affordable
- Metal internals and externals
- Internally identical to the CM 030 Glock 18C
Cons:
- Heavy, even for a AEP
- Larger handgrip may be difficult for smaller sized hands
- Not compatible with the Tokyo Marui Desert Eagle
- Only a black coloring available
The CYMA CM121, aka Desert Eagle is a decent AEP replica. The plus side is it’s basically a CYMA Glock 18C in a Desert Eagle body. Unfortunately this makes it incompatible with the TM Desert Eagle. Overall it’s an affordable replica of a popular pistol.
Inokatsu .50 Desert Eagle Gas Blowback (GBB) = Original Design
Price: Unknown
FPS: Unknown
Mags: Unknown
Pros:
- Awaiting release
Cons:
- Awaiting release
- Only the chome version has been pictured thus far
Inokatsu is known worldwide as a top-to-of-the-line airsoft producer. Their Desert Eagle is promissed to be as realistic as possible. Little is known about the pistol at this time.
KWC .50 Desert Eagle Gas Blowback (GBB) = Original Design
Price: $80 - $140
FPS: 300 - 400
Mags: Proprietary KWC 24rd (Green Gas) and 40rd (CO2) midcap mag
Pros:
- Cheap
- Metal slide with a plastic lower
- Green Gas and CO2 compatible with separate mags for each type
- Full trademarks
- Standard and 10” barrel versions available
- 2-tone and black coloring available
Cons:
- Not compatible with Tokyo Marui upgrades or replacements
KWC is not to be confused with KSC or KWA. KWC is their own brand that follows their own design making their pistols proprietary in every way. The only upside to them is for the price they aren’t a half bad replica. However, if you are looking into a long lasting replica KWC is not one of the companies to consider. However, as a wallhanger or general plinker KWC offers a competitive price.
Marushin .50 Desert Eagle Gas Blowback (NBB) = Original Design
Price: $100 - $120
FPS: 250 - 280
Mags: Proprietary Marushin 12rd midcap mag
Pros:
- The only 8mm Desert Eagle produced
- Chrome, black, and Chrome gold versions available
Cons:
- 8mm None Blowback (NBB)
- 8mm causes some issues in the reliability and functionality of the pistol as a skirmishable pistol
Marushin is well known for creating 8mm replicas of large caliber pistols. Their 1911 and Desert Eagle line both feature the large 8mm round instead of the standard 6mm. Unfortunately the large 8mm comes at a cost, with no blowback the pistol isn’t too much eye candy beyond the 8mm size. Like a number of Marushin pieces they’re a wallhanger and plinking piece rather than a field skirmishable secondary.
Tokyo Marui .50 Desert Eagle Gas Blowback (GBB) and Automatic Electric Pistol (AEP) = Original Design
Price: $30 - $200
FPS: 200 - 300
Mags: Proprietary TM 27rd (GBB) and 15rd (AEP) midcap mag
Pros:
- Tokyo Marui quality
- Automatic Electric Pistol (AEP) and Gas Blowback (GBB) variants available
- 10” and standard barrel available
- GBB variation is 100% aftermarket upgradable
- Chrome and black versions available
- Latest “hardkick” version can handle greengas without issue
Cons:
- Replacement parts are hard to find
- Upgrades are costly due to the rarity
Tokyo Marui sets the standard for GBB Desert Eagles, with high quality internal and external upgrades the TM Desert Eagle is the best choice for a fieldable pistol. The only downside is when some parts, such as the mag catch break, they can be hard to replace. The AEP version is a fairly low powered replica, but can be an interesting alternative to the GBB.
